i will remember her:
cornered between her door and the hallway wall, as i laughed, close to her, half exasperated: ‘just pick! order in, go out?’ indecisive as always, we settled on Outback, recalling our goal. we grabbed the keys, hit the lights, and rolled up hungry. but the Outback triumph was bittersweet: when we got back, the dog had eaten my medication, my makeup—and my shoes. i spent the next half hour joyfully playing tug of war with what was left of them, amused with her new toys.
